The creative problem

Power only works when the important action stays readable.

Dense FPS combat is easy to make loud and hard to make readable. The redesign treats every combat element as part of an intentional hierarchy, rather than maximising loudness or density everywhere at once.

What I built

A full redesign pass across a dense combat sequence.

I organised the redesign into functional REAPER groups so the dense sequence stayed easy to edit and iterate.

How it works

Design breakdown.

Combat and foreground clarity

The immediate player action gets priority: weapon fire, direct hits and nearby threats. The rest of the battlefield still needs to feel active, but it should not mask those cues. Quieter moments also give the bigger hits more room to land.

Foreground weapon presence stays readable even while several combat events compete for attention at once.
Environmental activity broadens the sense of the battlefield without competing with foreground combat priority.

Environment and scale

The sequence moves through broader outdoor spaces, where environmental activity has to support the sense of a larger conflict — present as context, not as the dominant information at every moment.

Interior response and spatial context

Outdoor battlefield spaces and tighter interior combat both need the same underlying hierarchy to hold up. Moving between them changes the immediate context without changing what the player needs to hear first.

The same combat hierarchy holds up in a tighter interior space, where context changes but priority doesn't.
Functional track groups — combat, weapon handling, footsteps — keep a dense redesign fast to iterate on rather than one flat timeline.

Workflow built for iteration

Functional groups separate nearby combat, weapon handling, player weapons, battlefield material and footsteps. Automation and custom actions handle repeated edits and keep the session manageable.

Result

One hierarchy across a changing battlefield.

The finished redesign treats player action, surrounding combat and environment as parts of one hierarchy — preserving impact while letting the sequence shift in density and scale.
